Last year in 2023, the home trends were derived from the organic modern style or clean organic style as I call it. Stepping into 2024, I am already sensing that interior design trends are shifting. If you clicked on this post, I am sure you are wondering what the h*ck the upcoming home trends are. So, I will lay it all out for you to consider adding some of these trends into your space. AVOID COSTLY (AND UGLY) DESIGN MISTAKES

As we step into the year 2024, interior design takes a fresh turn towards embracing more personalized, cozy, and eclectic interiors. If I have to summarize the upcoming home trends in one word, it would be Homey.

This year is all about making things feel homey

The upcoming trends foresee a shift towards creating spaces that are less picture-perfect and more real. Because, let’s face it…your home looking like a page out of Architectural Digest was never going to happen. It’s just not realistic. People are starting to embrace more eclectic, quirky and unique spaces that all in all feel super homey and comforting.

Think colourful sofas, filled bookcases, interesting artwork and vintage/ second-hand pieces.

I REALLY love this type of design. It’s right up my alley.

2024 home trends to consider

1. Embracing home-centric spaces

In 2024, the idea of ‘home’ takes centre stage. Interior design trends are predicted to focus more on creating nurturing and functional spaces that cater to individual lifestyles and cater to one’s personal home decor style. There’s an increased emphasis on crafting areas within homes that cater to creativity, relaxation, and entertaining. Multi-functional rooms that seamlessly blend work, relaxation, and hobbies are expected to gain prominence.

2. Embracing eclectic decor

The year 2024 is poised to celebrate eclectic decor, embracing a blend of various styles, colours, patterns, and textures. This trend encourages mixing and matching different design elements, allowing for a more personalized and unique aesthetic. Expect to see a fusion of vintage and contemporary, bold and subtle, creating a visual tapestry that reflects individuality and personality.

This works for those of you who have a collection of decor from all over. Or maybe you actively want to start collecting home decor. Odd and strange things pair up nicely in an eclectic style.

3. Comfort-driven design

Comfort takes precedence as a fundamental element in home trends for 2024. From plush seating arrangements to cozy nooks adorned with soft furnishings, the focus is on creating inviting spaces that encourage relaxation and tranquillity. Comfortable furniture, layered textiles, and warm lighting will play a pivotal role in achieving this comforting ambience.

4. Earthy and natural tones

Earthy and natural colour palettes are set to dominate interior spaces in 2024. Warm neutrals, earthy tones, and soothing hues derived from nature’s palette, such as soft greens, warm terracotta, and calming blues, will infuse spaces with a sense of serenity and connection to the natural world. So, in terms of home colours, not much has changed since last year.

5. Sustainable and handcrafted elements

The rise of sustainability continues to influence interior design choices in 2024. Expect to see a surge in the use of eco-friendly materials, upcycled furniture, and handcrafted decor items. Consumers are inclined towards supporting artisanal craftsmanship, embracing imperfections, and opting for sustainable design choices that contribute positively to the environment.

6. Flexible and adaptive layouts

Adaptability becomes a key factor in home design trends for 2024. With versatile and adaptable furniture pieces, modular layouts, and innovative storage solutions, spaces are designed to cater to evolving needs, allowing for flexibility in usage and customization according to changing lifestyles.

Making small spaces functional will be a big focus as people embrace living in small spaces. More interesting and innovative furniture pieces will hit the market, targeting those who need to plan every inch of their space to serve a purpose.

Is the Mid-Century Modern style here to stay in 2024?

Yes! I think the MCM style bodes well with the other home trends we are expecting to see. So, I don’t think people are going to shift away from the style. However, I do see the MCM style evolving a little bit. Maybe getting a little more experimental, as people will be itching to see and experience something unique.

What home trend I want to see come back in 2024

I personally really want Conversation Pits to come back in 2024! There’s nothing more homey than feeling cozy and contained. I think these retro convo pits perfectly create the environment for that, and also fit with the upcoming home trends and the MCM style.
