Sooo…I’ve kind of been coined the subject-matter expert on AI interior design. I was recently featured in Realtor.ca and known for publishing a popular blog post where I tested out the most talked-about AI design tools on the market. After testing plenty of tools myself, I realized it only made sense to put together a comprehensive guide that breaks down what each AI interior design platform does best, depending on what you’re actually looking for.

The Best AI For Photo-Realistic Renders
Here is a little story about how my client tried to use AI interior design to design her condo (but still ended up calling me).
Design AI Limits
Recently, I conducted a design consultation, as I always do to kick off a project. That means touring the home, diving deep into recommendations, and getting a clear sense of my client’s tastes and preferences.
Toward the end of the consultation, my client looked at me and said she had already spent hours using AI interior design tools to design her condo. I was a little surprised. She explained that while the tools helped her space plan and visualize different colour schemes, she still didn’t feel confident in the design intent.
She said, “AI helped me explore ideas, but I realized I still needed a professional to make sure everything actually works together.” She wanted expert guidance on things AI couldn’t quite deliver, such as a realistic budget, cohesive styling, and the nuanced decisions that go into truly good design.
In her words, AI interior design was a great starting point, but not a great ending point.
So, remember the limitations of AI design. These tools cannot design to meet building codes (especially important in kitchen and bath design), account for budgets, or tailor their approach to a client’s unique needs—the list goes on. However, that doesn’t mean AI design tools aren’t valuable. They can be incredibly useful in assisting and streamlining the design process.
Maybe you aren’t so tech-savvy
What you actually need is a good designer (cough cough), in which case, feel free to check out my online interior design service -> eDesign services.
But I’ve got you covered either way. Here’s a breakdown of the best AI interior design tools, depending on what you’re looking to achieve.

The Most Versatile AI Tool for Interior Designers – AI With Nano Banana Integration
As designers, we are constantly creating visuals — whether for clients, social media, or simply to bring our bold interior ideas to life before presenting them. That’s why having a flexible AI tool is essential for streamlining visualizations and image edits. So, what’s the most versatile AI tool out there? Enter PicLumen.
PicLumen is an online AI image generator that offers multiple AI models. The one most notable for us designers is Nano Banana, which makes PicLumen a powerful addition to every designer’s toolkit. Let me show you why.
I uploaded a photo of this seating area because I wanted to reimagine the gallery wall.

As you can see, the original wall was very basic and uninspiring. I uploaded the photo into PicLumen, selected the Nano Banana model, and prompted the AI with:
A collage of larger-scale prints and unique items, such as framed newspapers, adorns the wall, replacing the original artwork, in a mixed-media composition that adds texture and visual interest.
Side note, I also love that PicLumen includes a Prompt Enhance feature, which helps refine your inputs for even better results.
Here’s the output I got:

The results speak for themselves — the AI was quick and delivered exactly what I had envisioned. This tool is a total game-changer for designers: no more spending hours manually editing photos to get across our ideas to clients.
Background Removal Made Easy with AI
Another feature of PicLumen that designers can benefit from is its batch background removal. As designers, we frequently source images of furniture and decor from various places to use in mood boards and presentations. The problem? Many of these images come with distracting backgrounds. With PicLumen, you can upload up to 30 photos at once, and the AI will seamlessly remove all the backgrounds. Amazing.
So, you can see why I’m crowning this as the most versatile AI tool for designers. With PicLumen, you can alter interior photos with Google’s powerful AI, prep product images for mood boards, and even generate AI art for other creative visuals — all in one place.

The Best AI Generative Tool With Item Sourcing
Artevia is an AI tool with a clever sourcing integration through Amazon, which really intrigued me since Amazon is such a trusted source and a go-to for many when it comes to furnishing their spaces. This makes Artevia a fantastic option for anyone furnishing, decorating or styling on a budget and wanting the process to be as easy as possible.
When I tested this AI, I started by uploading a picture of an empty space and letting the AI’s imagination take over. The results were pleasing; the AI not only generated a realistic design but also provided me with a complete list of items to recreate the space.

I also experimented with the style transfer tool. I uploaded a photo of a living room and asked the AI to restyle it into an organic modern aesthetic using a reference image. The output was genuinely impressive, yet again. Another feature I found, which was also impressive, was the ability to create a video of the output. For interior designers, this can be a game-changer—transforming a simple AI design into an engaging and polished client presentation. Overall, Artevia is a fantastic generative design tool that sets itself apart from the crowd with Amazon sourcing integration.
The AI in Beta That Had Me Shocked

The future of AI in interior design looks incredibly bright. Frameshift is an AI beta that genuinely made my jaw drop. This tool has the potential to completely change how interior designers work — and maybe even don’t work.
Frameshift allows you to upload a floor plan and images of furniture pieces, then creates custom blocks that you can drop directly into the layout. The ability to create custom blocks so easily is particularly noteworthy and an impressive feature, especially considering how much time designers often waste downloading and tinkering with blocks in other software. However, this AI is far more clever than just that.
The feature that really shook me? The AI simultaneously builds a 3D visualization of the space. That’s right — no need to manually build out a 3D model just to get a realistic view.
And if the AI doesn’t get it perfect on the first try, no worries. With just a few clicks, you can swap items, move pieces around, and adjust the lighting scenes. From there, you can even create video presentations that show the space in action.
This AI makes creating impressive, client-ready presentations faster and easier than ever. A total game changer for interior designers.

The Best AI Interior Design and Architectural Tool
Interior design and architecture go hand in hand—and that’s where ArchiVinci comes in. This AI-powered design tool is not only helpful for interior designers but also for architects, thanks to its versatile toolkit.
So, what can ArchiVinci do? This AI tool allows you to:
- Render spaces in different interior design styles with AI
- Modify existing renders for refinements
- Transform sketches into realistic renders
- Convert landscape models into hyper-realistic visualizations
- And much more
If you’re an architect who also dabbles in interior design or decorating, ArchiVinci is definitely a top choice to add to your toolbox.
To test this AI, I generated an exterior render with their Modify Architecture Generator feature. I prompted this AI to change the exterior of this house to be cream coloured with a dark grey roof. See below for results.

The output is spot on! ArchiVinci was able to take a photo of this home (at night, no less) and transform the finishes to look realistic. It even captured the bench, an impressive demonstration of how well it handles fine details!
Sketch To Photo Realistic Renders
I’m also incredibly impressed with this AI’s robust interior design capabilities. It has, hands down, the best AI I’ve seen for turning sketches into polished, professional conceptual images. I’ve used it to transform rough, poorly executed mockups into client-ready visuals in just a few minutes.
This AI is especially strong at taking direction from very rough visuals, which makes it a powerful tool for interior designers in particular.
The Best AI Interior Design for Space Planning

Not all AI interior design tools are capable of space planning, but I tested one that can, and it’s actually really good at it. In fact, I use it myself as a professional.
I’m talking about Planner5D.
Planner5D is available as both a web platform and a mobile app, and honestly, I prefer the phone version. It runs more smoothly and feels super intuitive.
There’s a ton you can do with this tool, such as:
- Create to-scale floor plans and furnish them
- Convert hand-drawn layouts into digital plans
- Generate AI room designs
- Try on wallpaper, paint colours, and more
It really is an all-in-one AI design solution, which is ideal for anyone who wants versatility and ease in one place. I also love that you can switch between mobile and desktop, depending on your needs. Sometimes a quick tweak on your phone is all you need, and other times, a bigger screen helps visualize the space.
Funny enough, this is actually the AI app that my client used to redesign her condo.
It’s a great option, and I go into more detail in my full review here: I Tested the Best Interior Design AI Phone App
The Best AI Interior Design for Room Visuals

Paintit.ai is an AI tool I’ve tested extensively and have written about on my blog before. It earns a spot on this list because of how impressive the communication with the AI is and the photorealistic and accurate results it produces. The outputs are genuinely top-notch, and this AI is clever, really clever.
What makes this AI unique is its ability to support an ongoing conversation. You can prompt the tool to redecorate a space or adjust specific elements without having to start from scratch each time. It feels intuitive and intelligent, recognizing which elements of a room should remain while thoughtfully updating the areas you ask it to change. This allows the integrity of the space to stay intact while still enabling quick and effective redesigns.
Another standout feature is its shoppable component. Paintit.ai doesn’t just generate beautiful visuals—it also suggests real products you can purchase from retailers like IKEA, Amazon, and more. This makes it a tool that goes beyond aesthetics and into practical application, thus making it a great tool for those who are genuinely looking for a tool to assist with their decoration.
pinterest integration
Paintit recently launched a new feature: connect with Pinterest, allowing users to make design changes based on their Pinterest inspirations. This feature is ingenious!
Overall, this AI is one I’m genuinely impressed by. The interface is user-friendly, the ability to iterate repeatedly is seamless, and the results speak for themselves.

The Best AI Tool for Renovation Planning

For the average homeowner planning their own renovation, I recommend Coohom. This AI and floor planning tool is one of the most user-friendly design tools out there. It includes powerful AI features that can redecorate your design in a variety of styles, making it simple to visualize different looks. If you’re looking for an all-in-one solution to help plan a renovation from A to Z, I’d say Coohom is your best bet. See my full Coohom review Here.
Another noteworthy AI for this category is Renovate.AI. This app is designed specifically for homeowners planning various home projects. It allows you to easily organize by project and bring your renovation ideas to life by rendering your space in different styles. If you want to try this tool to help plan your next renovation, use code DEE10 for a 10% discount on your plan.
The Best AI For Photo-Realistic Renders

In December 2025, DesignFiles launched its Enhance with AI tool, changing the way designers generate photorealistic visuals forever. This tool has been a serious game-changer for me as a designer. It allows you to transform a mood board, mockup, or 3D render into something photorealistic and client-ready in minutes. You can also use this AI tool on 3D visuals created outside the platform, which makes it a highly versatile tool and easy for designers to adapt to.
Today, it’s no longer acceptable for interior designers to present anything less than photorealism — and that’s exactly where a tool like this comes in. This AI is available to interior designers who use DesignFiles to run their business, and each credit costs just one penny, with renders typically requiring only 8–20 credits per visual. That level of accessibility is not only impressive — it’s genuinely revolutionary.

The Overall Best Design AI
Well, it’s probably obvious by now that I’ve taken a liking to Planner5D, and honestly, it’s well-deserved. This AI tool really impresses me, and I truly believe someone could design their entire space from top to bottom using just this one app. So, if you’re looking for an all-in-one, no-fail interior design tool, Planner5D is definitely my top pick.
That said, I do find the phone app version to be more intuitive than the desktop version. Oddly enough, there are some features that are only available on the app, so just a heads-up! I have found that their customer service/ AI bot is really helpful. Which is great considering that there is a little learning curve to AI interior design.
Lately, I’ve been using this tool a lot in my own workflow, and it’s made creating space plan drawings much more efficient.
Honestly, I don’t see a future in the interior design industry without AI, it’s here to stay. That said, I still always encourage people to work with real designers for that irreplaceable human touch. I promise you, AI is only so creative. And it’s not charming, witty, clever or cool like us real designers.
