Designer Tips: How To Create a Luxurious Bedroom
Have you ever stayed in a super luxurious hotel room and thought, “Wow, if only my own bedroom felt like this?” Me too. That’s exactly why, when designing my own bedroom, I decided to splurge and go for a more elevated, luxurious look.
As a designer, my goal is always to create beautiful spaces that are also functional and reflect my clients’ style and needs. But beyond that, I aim to design spaces that feel elevated—filled with high-quality pieces that stand the test of time, along with subtle touches of luxury.
AVOID COSTLY (AND UGLY) DESIGN MISTAKES

Because let’s be honest—we all love that luxurious feeling. And bringing it into your bedroom every day is a simple way to enjoy those little moments of comfort and indulgence.
So, here’s my list of necessities to make a bedroom feel luxurious:
Top 10 Luxurious Bedroom Ideas
1. Good Quality Sheets

Luxury is all about attention to detail and quality. Nothing throws off the mood of a bedroom more than low-quality sheets. Let’s face it—the bed is the star of the show, and the feeling you get when crawling into bed or waking up sets the tone for the entire space. Sheets are definitely worth the investment.
In my own bedroom, I chose linen sheets. Linen is a beautiful, earthy fabric that’s durable and naturally gives off a relaxed yet luxurious feel. I went with a white linen sheet set from Baloo Living, and I absolutely love these sheets. The texture, feel, and overall look bring an intentional, elevated vibe to the space. Linen has a subtle, organic texture, and for me, it’s all about those small details.
I also added their weighted duvet, which has been a total game-changer for my sleep. I genuinely can’t sleep without a weighted duvet now.
If you haven’t invested in your bedding yet, this is the first step to creating a luxurious bedroom.
2. Fresh Flowers On Your Nightstands

Fresh bedside flowers instantly elevate a space. Whether it’s a weekly ritual or something you do when guests are staying over, this small detail makes a big impact. It adds life, softness, and a subtle sense of luxury.
I personally love adding tulips, they come in so many colours, act as a beautiful decorative piece, and enhance that effortless, elevated feel. Not to mention, waking up to fresh flowers is such a lovely experience.
3. Scents

To complement your bedding, I highly recommend having a signature home scent—something you can lightly apply to your sheets or have lingering in the room. It’s that small detail of getting into bed and catching a hint of eucalyptus, bergamot, or another calming scent.
Scent is very personal, but incorporating it into your bedroom routine can instantly elevate the overall experience.
4. Original Artwork

As a designer, I know what’s worth the splurge—and original artwork is one of those things. Nothing cheapens a space quite like generic, mass-produced prints. The quality and uniqueness just aren’t the same.
Original artwork brings an instant sense of luxury. You can see the brushstrokes, the texture of the paint, and the intention behind the piece. Paired with a beautiful frame, it adds depth and character that simply can’t be replicated.
5. Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a powerful way to elevate a bedroom. It adds a layer of detail and richness that paint alone can’t achieve. My personal favourite is textured wallpaper: it introduces depth, warmth, and visual interest.
If you’re feeling bold, you could even opt for a mural-style wallpaper. It creates a stunning feature wall and adds a unique, immersive quality to the space.
6. Wall Sconces

Wall sconces are one of my favourite lighting choices for a bedroom. They free up space on your nightstands (perfect for those flowers!) while adding a clean, elevated look.
They come in a variety of styles, making them easy to incorporate into different design aesthetics. There’s something about sconces that feels very intentional—and when it comes to luxury, intention is everything. In my own bedroom, I chose a minimal style, and they add just the right amount of “wow” without overwhelming the space.
7. Chandelier

On the topic of lighting, adding a chandelier can instantly bring a sense of luxury into a bedroom. Lighting has a huge impact on how a space feels.
Builder-grade fixtures are easy to spot—and they rarely feel luxurious. Swapping them out for something more unique or elegant can completely transform the room.
8. Candles

Nothing says cozy and luxurious quite like candles. They create a warm, sensual atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and unwind.
Adding a few elegant candles to your nightstands or dresser is a simple way to enhance the ambiance and bring that soft, luxe feeling into your everyday routine.
9. Draperies

Window treatments can completely change the look and feel of a space. For a more luxurious vibe, opt for draperies instead of basic blinds or roller shades.
If you already have blinds, consider layering drapery panels for a more elevated look. Also, this is one area where quality really shows—higher-end fabrics hang better, feel richer, and instantly elevate the room.
10. A Reading Nook

One thing luxury hotels do so well is create moments within a space—like a cozy reading nook. It invites you to slow down, unwind, and enjoy the environment.
When designing a luxury interior, you’re often designing for the lifestyle someone aspires to—not just their current habits. A reading corner, a small vanity, or a quiet seating area can make the space feel more expansive and intentional.
Why Your Bedroom Is Worth the Investment
A luxurious bedroom is an investment in yourself. It’s not just about how the space looks—it’s about how it makes you feel. When you create a bedroom that feels elevated and intentional, you’re investing in your mind, body, and overall well-being.
Luxury doesn’t have to be reserved for vacations or occasional experiences. When you thoughtfully bring it into your home—through the pieces you choose and the intention behind them—you can create a space that feels special every single day.
