Sensual Spaces: How to Create a Sexy Interior
Creating a sexy interior is about more than just aesthetics – it’s about setting the mood and indulging in the pleasures of the senses. Whether you’re looking to get the magic going again in your bedroom, create a romantic dining nook, or design a seductive lounge area, there are plenty of ways to infuse your space with allure and sensuality. What is a sexy interior?
For you, creating a sexy interior might be taboo. For me, it’s my favourite type of interiors to create. You might be asking what a sexy interior is. We all know of sexy people. Who do I find sexy? Charlie Hunnam and young Brad Pitt. Pretty simple answer. What type of interiors do I find sexy? Well, that’s a bit more nuanced. But, I can say that I find the sexiest interiors to be jazz bars, french bistros and little hole-in the wall restaurants. I’ll give you some visuals.
Okay, so do you get it now? These interiors have sex appeal.
What makes these interiors sexy, you ask…if I had to sum it up into one word, it would be: drama. You see, drama can be kinda sexy. Which is why movies like Fatal Attraction are considered to be sexy movies (I mean, I guess it is partially sexy, right?). For whatever reason, we, crazy, messed up humans LOVE drama. It is kind of toxic. However, in interior design, we can express drama without feelings getting hurt or mistresses getting killed.
We can add drama in a number of ways into interiors, let’s explore more comprehensively.

So, how can we achieve the sexy interiors of our dreams? Here are some pointers to consider.
- Set the Mood with Lighting: One of the most effective ways to create a sexy ambience in your interior is through lighting. Opt for soft, dimmable lighting sources like candles, string lights, or low-wattage bulbs. This casts a warm, flattering glow that enhances the atmosphere. Consider installing dimmer switches to adjust the lighting levels according to your mood. Unexpected red theory
The easiest way to make any interior feel a little sexier is to add an unexpected pop of red.
Let’s do a little case study, look at this interior.
I would say that this interior is pretty sexy. What makes it sexy is the unexpected pop of red. I came to this conclusion by envisioning this space with a brown cuddle chair instead of a red one. And, meh. Sex appeal gone. To prove my theory, I even photoshopped the chair brown to show you.
You see, the room lost a lot of sex appeal. Because, I took away the drama, contrast and the unexpectedness of the sexy cherry red chair.
It’s similar to red lipstick. Something about red oozes sex appeal.
The cherry on top to create a sexy space…
When you think of an interior, you might only think about the tangible things that go into an interior. But, when creating a space, you really need to think about everything that goes into creating the atmosphere. And, that includes music. Music can completely change the vibe of a space. Music is a game changer. So, to complete your sexy space and really take it to the next level, consider investing in high quality speakers. For the choice of music, well, I am somewhat of a sexy-music expert. I could write a whole blog post on that topic alone. But, to keep it concise, I will recommend; Sade, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, George Michael, Patrice Rushen, Jodeci…. (I can really go on forever). Because, in my condo, music is always playing to set the right mood.
