AI virtual staging is a hot topic in both the interior design and real estate worlds, so I thought I’d chime in. Recently, I attended a networking event where I met a real estate agent. Naturally, I asked her what she thought about AI virtual staging, and her insights were refreshingly honest and totally aligned with my own thoughts on AI in interior design.

AVOID COSTLY (AND UGLY) DESIGN MISTAKES

(If you’re new to the blog, welcome! I cover AI interior design all the time—it’s kind of my thing.)

So, back to the story. She mentioned that not every client is willing (or able) to spend $6,000–$10,000+ on traditional home staging. In those cases, AI virtual staging can be a great alternative. Tools like AIHomeDesign, Remodeled, and MyArchitectAI offer staging services for as little as $50 to $200.

Let’s put that in perspective: we’re talking hundreds of dollars versus thousands. Big difference.
So yes, if you’re looking to save some serious cash, AI virtual staging can be a smart, budget-friendly solution.
Is AI Virtual Staging Effective?
The realtor and I both agreed: AI virtual staging is definitely effective when it comes to driving more traffic to a listing. I mean, compare a listing with empty rooms to one that’s fully staged with furniture and decor—it’s a no-brainer. Most people are what I like to call “imagination-impaired.” They need to see it to understand how a space can come together.
AI virtual staging helps spark that interest. It gets more eyes on your listing, more people booking showings, and ultimately increases your chances of getting an offer.
But here’s the catch: what happens when buyers show up in person and the space no longer looks like the AI-staged version? That’s where the magic of AI virtual staging ends—unless we’re talking about AR, which is a whole other conversation for another day.
So yes, the excitement might drop once they walk into an empty room. But even then, the initial interest it generates is valuable. The more people viewing the listing, the more potential for offers. So if you’re debating between posting a completely empty listing or one that’s at least virtually staged, I’d say,go with the AI. Every little edge helps.
Is Home Staging Worth It?

From a designer’s perspective, home staging may be worth it, depending on the current real estate market. If your property is in a hot real estate market, you may not need much help to sell. But if it’s a buyer’s market, that extra visual push can make a big difference in generating interest and, ultimately, closing the deal.
There’s a huge difference between touring an empty home and one that feels furnished and thoughtfully decorated. That emotional connection can directly influence how excited potential buyers feel—and even affect the kind of offer they make. So, in short: it depends. In some cases, virtual staging is a smart move, and in some cases, traditional home staging is worth the big bucks.
How AI Virtual Staging Is Impacting Home Stagers
Some home stagers are actually embracing the shift by offering hybrid services—combining physical staging with digital enhancements, or offering virtual staging packages as part of their service menu. Others are collaborating with AI platforms, using their design expertise to curate more realistic and stylish digital outputs that stand out in a sea of generic renders.
There’s also growing interest in augmented reality (AR), where buyers can use apps to visualize furniture in the space during a showing. Forward-thinking stagers who explore these tools can stay relevant while expanding their service offerings.
However, some home stagers are resisting the shift. AI virtual staging is a completely different process from traditional home staging, and to some, it may feel like a cheap imitation that undercuts their work and takes money out of their pockets. And to be fair—that concern isn’t unfounded.
But here’s the thing: AI virtual staging isn’t necessarily replacing traditional staging. It’s offering an option for sellers who were never going to invest thousands in full-service staging in the first place. It’s for those who simply need their listing to stand out in a crowded market, on a tighter budget.
So, my take? There’s room for both. Traditional and AI staging can serve different audiences, and in some cases, even complement each other.
AI Virtual Staging For Real Estate Agents

AI virtual staging is quickly becoming a powerful tool in every real estate agent’s toolkit, with affordable options such as AIHomeDesign and MyArchitectAI. With the ability to transform empty or outdated spaces into beautifully styled rooms in minutes, which, helps listings stand out online, generate more clicks, and attract serious buyers. It’s cost-effective, fast, and ideal for marketing properties that don’t warrant full-scale staging. For agents looking for AI tools to boost visibility and drive interest, AI virtual staging is an essential.
Will Home Stagers Become Obsolete?
I don’t believe home stagers will become obsolete, because the need for real, in-person staging won’t disappear. However, the industry is definitely being impacted, and some level of adjustment is necessary as we move further into this AI-driven era. Just as interior designers like myself have had to adapt to the rise of AI tools that make design more accessible and affordable, home stagers and even real estate agents will need to evolve their business models to stay competitive.
The reality is that AI is transforming nearly every industry, and we’re living through a fascinating period of change. It’s one I’m immersed in every day as I continue to explore and write about the intersection of AI and interior design.
Final Thoughts
So, while I think technology is exciting and has its place, I always say, AI isn’t perfect. And, it can’t replace the real thing. In this case, the real thing is walking through a fully furnished and beautifully decorated home that creates an emotional connection and influences buyers to make an offer.
AI virtual staging and design tools are still relatively new, and part of their appeal right now comes from that novelty. But once that novelty fades, I believe we’ll see a shift back toward more traditional methods, especially when sellers want to truly wow their buyers in person.
